Unveiling the 2025 Oceania Photo Contest
The Nature Conservancy Australia (TNC) is excited to announce the launch of its 2025 Oceania Photo Contest, a competition inviting photographers from Australia, New Zealand, the Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea. This contest aims to celebrate and showcase the stunning biodiversity of the Oceania region, which is home to unique species and fragile ecosystems. Open for submissions from September 1 to October 24, 2025, the contest has robust prizes totaling $15,000, including a $6,000 Grand Prize for the best photograph.
Six Categories to Capture Nature's Wonders
Amateur and professional photographers alike can submit their entries across six captivating categories: People & Nature, Climate, Water, Lands, Plants & Fungi, and Wildlife. The aim is to inspire conservation and raise awareness of the critical need to protect the incredible landscapes and species that call Oceania home. Dr. Eddie Game, TNC’s Head of Oceania Programs, emphasizes the importance of photography in connecting people with nature and engaging them in conservation efforts.
Photography as a Tool for Conservation
Renowned nature photographer Jarrod Boord, who returns as a judge for the contest, shares his perspective on the potent role photography plays in environmental advocacy. “This contest is about more than beautiful pictures; it’s about inspiring people to protect what they love,” he states. The photographs submitted are expected not only to capture breathtaking aspects of nature but also to tell a story about a moment frozen in time that beckons action towards environmental protection.
Engaging the Community in Conservation Efforts
The 2025 Oceania Photo Contest builds on the success of its inaugural event, attracting thousands of entries from both budding and experienced photographers. This initiative fosters community involvement and encourages individuals to share their passion for nature. By highlighting the importance of these unique ecosystems, the contest promotes a culture of stewardship for local biodiversity.
The Contest's Appeal to Young and Emerging Photographers
With no entry fee, the contest invites all individuals aged 18 and over from the eligible countries to participate. This accessibility encourages the participation of younger generations who might be inspired to take up photography as a tool for advocacy. Their unique perspectives and fresh ideas are vital for showcasing the vibrance and vulnerability of Oceania’s natural world.
